Natural face cream.... Make it in your home

Green Living with Jane Marvel: Make your Own Natural Face Cream

I’m very excited about making my own organic face cream and saying goodbye to those spa-priced moisturizers that don’t compare in quality. Not only can you decide which ingredients go into your moisturizer this way, but you can also decide what does not – namely unnecessary chemicals and any ingredient you may be allergic to. Another plus is that if you have sensitive, dry, or oily skin, you can adjust the ingredients to be more effective for your skin type. This recipe sounds so easy that even while raising two boys and running a company, I think I can find the time twice a year to whip up a quick batch that will last me 6 months. Why not give this simple face cream recipe a whirl and tell me what you think?

JANES MARVEL-OUS FACE CREAM RECIPE

Ingredients

6 oz of organic sweet almond oil
2 oz of organic avocado oil (or substitute sunflower oil)
3/4 cup shaved beeswax (use a cheese grater)
1 tsp lecithin granules dissolved in 1 cup of lukewarm water
Essential Oils:
Lavender or Rose (20 drops)
Ylang Ylang (10 drops)
Chamomile (10 drops)
Eucalyptus (6 drops)
Patchouli (2 drops)
Frankincense (2 drops)

COMBINING INGREDIENTS:

Bring a double boiler filled with water to a boil. Pour the sweet almond and avocado oil into a sterilized Pyrex container with the shaved beeswax.
Set the Pyrex container inside the top of the double boiler pot and warm the oil and beeswax mixture until the beeswax is melted. Remove immediately from the stove.
In a separate bowl, dilute the lecithin granules in the cup of lukewarm purified water.  Pour the water & lecithin mixture into the blender and mix it up. Slowly add the oil mixture while blending until the mixture forms a cream.
Last, but not least add your special blend of essential oils (or mine – chamomile, eucalyptus, frankincense, lavender, patchouli and ylang ylang).  Blend until everything is thoroughly integrated. Then fill the sterilized glass jars and label them. This cream will last about 6 months if kept refrigerated.

**You need a total of 50 drops of essential oil for this recipe – you can customize your cream with whichever oils you like. I use a lot of lavender oil because it smells so darn good, AND it aids in cellular regeneration. Whoo hoo!
